The Black Swan - The Inn Collection Group - Helmsley

The stay here was pleasant with new layout and more space between tables than on our first visit. This hotel was set in a central area close to the square in Helmsley, Helmsley and centre.

The area was dull.

The a double room I was given was complete with bathroom accessories and sterilised tea and hot drinks. Everything seemed good, clean and the staff were lovely people on customer service something of a rarity. The hotel was in a great and stunning location close to the centre of the picturesque town of Helmsley as well as the bar restaurant and domestic. Also, a rich medieval stone fortress was placed at a small distance.

Plenty of food for the continental breakfast. Very comfortable building and rooms with convenient decoration.

The venue's position was very central.

It was just an appropriate option for one night in Helmsley with good value considering price it charged. The food was surprisingly excellent . Try to ask for a clean table before breakfast rush starts.

Beautiful period hotel in fabulous setting in Nth Yorks Moors National Park. Comfortable room, friendly and attentive staff, and excellent food if you like a gourmet w/e - which was one of our reasons for re-visiting The Black Swan. Set in the market place of lovely town of Helmsley with plenty to see and do without going too far. Beautiful garden at the back and ample safe parking. We highly recommend it, worth every penny spent on this 5 Star Hotel. Fully intend coming again.

Couldn't fault anything other than the room decor which was verging on looking 'tired' but then maybe we do at our age! It cannot be easy keeping up the refurbishing of a hotel of this size and history. We love it as it is, complete with creaky floorboards.

100% recommend for a walk in evening

Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, made us feel welcome with our dog and the excellent location allowed us to enjoy splendid walks in nature right from the village center.

Staying in a classical Yorkshire village square- location is wonderful.Food at the Swan is excellent. Service is attentive, polite, helpful and friendly.The best towels we have ever experienced at this grade/ level of hotel.

Long, narrow corridoors to get to rooms- no internet access in rooms? Stairway perhaps dangerous for older guests? also stairway/carpet on stairs grubby.

The lounges and the restaurant are to a very high standard. Food was excellent.

Some members of staff were indifferent to the guests. The reception area is cramped.

Couple's Retreat for Food Lovers

The food was fantastic especially the scallops and black pudding first course I mean it was just delicious and the main course of loin of venison cooked to perfection my God that was a meal I won't forget and the staff they were good helping us celebrate our anniversary with a lovely card and some homemade treats.

Sure it wasn't exactly cheap but come on sometimes you gotta splurge for a nice experience.

We could not fault the staff - they were brilliant.

We thought that the position of the kitchen vis-a-vis the dining room left something to be desired - food arriving at the table was never piping hot

We liked the traditional comfort of the hotel and the courtesy and attentiveness of the staff. It is very conveniently situated in a quiet corner of the market square in Helmsley And the food is good - especially the breakfasts!

For elderly visitors the bedrooms are sometimes far away from other facilities - ie Reception, restaurant and car park. I did not like the practice of loading several of the main courses on the dinner menu with supplements. This meant that if one wished to keep to the advertised price for dinner then the choice was limited to 2 dishes.
